From Ideas on Ideas:
1. Find the problem
Don't try to push the creative envelope, rather find the problem and solve it.
2. Don't be so smart.
Just solve the damn problem - its hard enough.
3. Sorta stealing.
Is there a visual dialect, idioms, interactivity standards for websites/systems in this area? Invention might actually be counterproductive, if its too different.
4. Set the bar higher.
Skiing analogy.
Pitch for a local project as if it was a national one.
Find a great designer, and act as if he's your competitor.
5. Make, save and compare.
Versioning. Different copies of ideas, sequentially numbered.
6. Just start already.
Doesn't matter how crap it is, it gives you something to work with.
